Pardon the Dust – We are almost finished.

Pardon the construction. We are almost finished refurbishing the new Bay View Cafe.

We’re calling it the cafe instead of the cafeteria for many reasons:

1.  We do not serve cafeteria food. Nothing frozen or out of the box. No mystery meat in    strange sauces. Epicurean serves fresh, natural, local and organic food sustainabily. If you’ve enjoyed our BBQ lunches these last few weeks, you’ll love our new menu.

2. Lawrence Berkeley deserves to have a Cafe built on fresh, made-from-scratch food and excellent customer service.

3. Cafeterias don’t offer fantastic catering, we do. Please click here for our catering menu.

4. Three of your fellow lab mates suggested the name and the LBNL Director liked it so Bay View Cafe it is.

Your new Bay View Cafe will be open Monday, June 27…see you here!

First week’s posted menu has only one vegetarian meal (Tuesday pasta bowl). Does the menu just have the special entrees? Is there some standard, every day menu that includes vegetarian food? Based on the posted menu, it looks like this new cafe is not vegetarian friendly. Fancier version of the old meat and potatoes lunch special cafeteria. Sad. Hoping to be corrected / surprised with veggie-friendly daily offerings…

      Dear Brett,

The posted menu only includes the daily specials. All of our cafe menu stations offer a delicious vegetarian option. I will talk to the chef to include more vegetarian options in our daily specials also. Please come down tot he cafe and see the range of vegetarian meals we offer.

      Thank you,

Is it just me that thinks this place is way way overpriced? I just paid about 7 dollars for a tiny little salmon burger, no fries or drink, plus the cheese was extra. Organic food at Berkeley Bowl costs about half as much. I will have to stop there on my way home today because I’m still very hungry.

Compared to our previous cafeteria, this cafeteria (yes its a cafeteria, far from a cafe), is about a 3 out of 10. The bbq over the last few weeks was also awful, cold food and high prices that always left me feeling hungry. I thought it would get better when the cafeteria opened, not worse. I will be looking for a different lunch option from now on 😦

Could you please indicate on the menus online, and at the cafe itself, which dishes are vegetarian and/or vegan.

    HI,
I really love most of the meals that you serve. I have one special request: can you please get rid of the $5 meal, Tofu Stir Fry with Snap Peas, Asparagus, Udon Noodles, Basil, Mint, Onions, Garlic, Bell Peppers.? It doesn’t meet the standard of your other meals. I heard the same thing from other people. I didn’t finish my meal yesterday.
    Thank you,
    Yingying Kooyman
